Our history
It was in 1975, in the vineyards of Château de Villemajou, in the heart of the Corbières, that Gérard Bertrand first picked grapes and discovered his passion for wine.
It was in this spirit that he took over the family business at Domaine de Villemajou after the accidental death of his father in 1987. Five years later, he created the Gérard Bertrand wine company to develop a range of wines from the South of France.
This exceptional rosé was born on this particular terroir, where schist rests on limestone, bringing both power and minerality to this wine. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand in 10 kg crates, which spend a night in cold storage before being pressed the following day, thus preserving their aromatic purity. This latest vintage, despite its youth, reveals remarkable complexity and will set the standard for decades to come. It is characterized by notes of red fruit, with hints of blackcurrant, exotic fruit and pineapple, as well as sensational minerality and freshness. The length and aromatics of the nose continue on the palate, with a silky, full-bodied wine that bounces off the palate.
A great deal of respect and interest in the 8,000-year-old Georgian tradition of vinifying white grapes in whole bunches in buried clay amphorae.
The conviction that the Roussanne, Viognier and Vermentino grapes, the terroir and the climate are perfectly suited to making an orange wine. The intention to create a great orange wine for ageing, with finesse and delicacy, balanced, with a beautiful aromatic structure and typical of the Château's terroir.
With 17 châteaux and estates located in the most outstanding terroirs of the South of France, Gérard Bertrand is the Ambassador of the Great Wines of Occitanie throughout the world. From the high-altitude vineyards near the Pyrenees to the volcanic soils of the Terrasses du Larzac and the coastal vineyards overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the Châteaux and domaines cover 850 hectares cultivated biodynamically. Witnessing the unique diversity of grape varieties and terroirs, the exceptional vineyards are located in the finest crus of Southern France: Corbières-Boutenac, Terrasses du Larzac, Minervois La Livinière, La Clape, Limoux, Cabrières, Cahors... to name but a few.
