Description of the wine
The plots of Château Laville Bertrou are located on an exceptional terroir within the very high-quality Minervois-la-Livinière appellation. This extraordinary terroir, acquired by Gérard Bertrand in 1997, allows the production of powerful and distinctive wines, like the great wines of Languedoc. Benefiting from a semi-arid Mediterranean climate with a temperate winter variation, the vines are exposed due south on the heights of the village of La Livinière, at an altitude of around 120 m.
Château Laville Bertrou Grand Vin is a selection of the best plots of the Domaine. The soil is made up of a mosaic of stripped marl, associated with calcareous sandstone and compact limestone dating from the Eocene (Tertiary era). This type of terroir naturally limits the production of each vine. The deep rooting of the vines allows them to withstand low rainfall and water stress. The significant sunshine promotes the slow maturation of the grapes.

Vinification and aging
The vineyard is carefully tended to in order to obtain grapes of impeccable quality, ripe, healthy and concentrated. The planting density is high, from 5000 to 6500 vines per ha, for the most recent plantations. The vines are trained in high espaliers to guarantee high leaf surfaces and the yields are controlled around 30 hl/ha.
The grapes are harvested manually, at perfect maturity, and transported to the cellar in baskets. The different grape varieties are vinified separately, respecting their own characteristics. Carignan is vatted and vinified in whole bunches. For Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre after destemming, the vinification and maceration are traditional with temperature control. Light pumping over is carried out on the basis of daily tastings of the musts in order to express the tannins and the aromatic signature of the wine to their full potential. After malolactic fermentation, the blend is carried out.
The wine is mostly spent in barrels and the rest in vats for a period of 12 months of aging. Before bottling, a light filtration is done.
Tasting note
The dress is a beautiful garnet color, intense and
brilliant. From the nose emerges an aromatic bouquet
complex, where blackberry, blueberry and cherry are
mixed with pleasant notes of liquorice and undergrowth. The attack on the palate is ample, fluid and suave.
Present, but round and melted, the tannins support
delicate aromas of red and black berries.
Fruity and balanced, its finish lingers in the mouth on
subtle woody notes.
Conservation
Keep away from sunlight and at a constant temperature
